Seems to be a springtime event at Highland Park, for the third year in a row a search for an Athletic Director is in progress. For anyone that hasn’t been keeping up, 2022 saw long time AD, Johnny Ringo stepping down to pursue other interests. Ringo had held the Athletic Director position for nine years. Prior to coming to Highland Park Ringo had spent time at Austin Westlake, a moment at Texas Tech, Uvalde, Irving McArthur, Coppell, SMU and Plano East. He served as President of Texas High School Coaches Association and was beloved at HP.
Replacing him was a difficult task but Highland Park brought in Rodney Webb who has most recently coached at Rockwall. After about eight months the call to coaching was too strong and Webb returned to Rockwall to Coach Rockwall Heath’s football team.
Spring of 2023, Highland Park turned to Lonnie Jordan, fresh off coaching the Lake Highlands football program where he was a favorite among his players. Ready for a new challenge Jordan took to the Athletic Director position like a natural. Unfortunately for Highland Park Jordan’s easy going outward approach to people and his new talent put Jordan at the top of Plano’s list for a new Athletic Director.
Plano ISD is one of the largest school districts in Texas, a challenge to big for Lonnie Jordan to pass up. A loss for Highland Park. Luckily Highland Park has recent experience looking for an Athletic Director and now they should have a much better idea of who wants to fill the Athletic Director role and wants to stick around. It would seem they might just dust off resumes from previous applicants and talk to some new ones, hopefully finding the perfect fit this time around. Time will only tell, will this become a regular spring task or will the next AD stick around and make a name for themself.
