Highland Park’s head football coach Randy Allen will head to Waco May 18th to receive the Tom Landry Award. The award recognizes Texas High School coaches that serve as positive role models through their life and actions for athletes. The Tom Landry Award was created in 1990 by the Texas High School Coaches Association and was given to it’s first recipient, Charlie Johnston, in 1991.
Coach Allen’s example is well known over his high school coaching career starting as an assistant in Bryan , moving on in 1981 to be the head coach at Bellinger, then Brownwood, Abilene Cooper and finally in 1999 Highland Park. He wears a fedora on the sidelines on Friday nights, reminiscent of Coach Tom Landry while coaching the Dallas Cowboys. .
