The game that was billed one of the most anticipated games of the week, HP vs ESD, did not disappoint. The number one team and number two team in the state gave a real show to the specators. Scots James Allen put the Scots on the board first.
ESD answered quickly with goals by Wayte McKnight and Jack Cohen, the Eagles had a 2-1.
Scots Jack Bond took the ball to the net to tie up the game 2-2. Scots reliable scorer Harrison Brown hit two goals back-to-back, closing out the first quarter with the Scots up 4-2.
The second quarter gave ESD a chance to score two goals by Asher Lear to tie the game up 4-4. Harrison Brown teamed up with James Allen for another Scots’ goal giving the Scots a 5-4 lead going into the halftime.
The teams both played great defense in the third quarter, Carter Sutton made a pass to James Allen for the only goal in the third quarter giving the Scots a 6-4 lead going into the last quarter.
The fourth quarter brought out the best in both teams. ESD’s Wayte McKnight scored before the Scots’ Colton Heinlen hit two goals putting the Scots ahead 8-6. The defenses fought it out for the rest of the fourth quarter until Josh Logan of ESD hit a long shot with less than a minute to go. ESD took the ball in behind the HP goal with just seconds left but were unable to capitalize, giving the Scots an 8-7 win on ESD’s home field. Rest assured these two will probably meet up again in the State tournament.
HP will face off with Southlake again in the state quarter-finals at Highlander Stadium this Friday, May 1st at 7:30.
ESD will meet up with St. Marks again at ESD Friday, May 1st at 7:00 pm.
