The Rotary club honored Jan Langein as the Grand Marshall, Brad Cheves as the University park Citizen of the Year. Additionally the Rotary Club honored many of it’s own, like Jeff Sheehan. Some of the Highland park “Teacher of the Year” honorees rode in the parade. The University Park Police and Fire Departments, along with The Highland Park Police and Fire Departments all lead the parade to the delight of the kids. Motor cyles and fire engine sirens are always the first sign that the parade has reached you. About midway through the parade the Sherriff’s department handed out stickers to represent badges followed up by two horses. Highland Park Football, Highland Belles, Cheer, Girls’ basketball, Girls cross country and track and field all had large floats. Water flew off the swimming and water polo float and bass fishing teammates rode in a boat on a trailer. So many neighborhood floats, cars, golf carts with a few kids on bicycles filled in between antique cars and decorated jeeps. As the floats, cars and band wound their way through the Park Cities’ streets they end up at Goar Park for a whole other party. Tents where the football players signed copies of their mini poster. Businesses give away freebies and all of the honorees are recognized at the gazebo during a small presentation.
