HP shocks Red Oak

Highland Park defeats Red Oak 52-35

What was billed to be a close battle between Highland Park and Red Oak, turned out to be a night for the Scots to shine. Injuries have plagued the Scots resulting in showing the depth in each position HP has. When a player goes down, a new one appears almost seamlessly, showing very little change in performance. The Scots have relied on some sophomores to fill those gaps.

The win over Red Oak demonstrated this theory, with Cannon Bozman out, Matthew White who had been playing running back, moved over to receiver for the second week. White scored four touchdowns.  White has experience in both positions, and it shows. Red Oak’s explosive offense was anything but.  The Scots defense seemed to be clicking Highland Park’s Buck Randall had 444 total yards, throwing for 379.  Randall threw for six touchdowns in the first three quarters and sat out most of the fourth quarter.

The Scots scored early with a pass to Harrison Cullum for a touchdown. The Scots scored 24 points in the second quarter, starting with a pass to Matthew White, who ran down the sideline over half of the field to score. White took a shorter pass into the endzone.  A short pass to Cash Tanner followed up by a field goal by Sutton Stock put the Scots ahead at halftime 38-14. Case Messer jumped high in the corner of the endzone coming down with the ball to keep the Scots scoring in the third quarter. White took a one yard run giving the Scots their final touchdown of the night.Randall sat out the fourth quarter letting Case Messer take over.

The Scots ended the night with another District win 52-35.   Scots who are 2-0 in district play head into an off week before traveling to Joshua, Friday, October 17th.
