As dark skies wrapped around the Lovejoy stadium, lightning could be seen in the distance. The teams warmed up as the stands filled with fans. Then the announcement came to take cover, lightning was in the area. For the next two and a half hours fans were relegated to their cars or the school cafeteria. Finally, the game started between Highland Park and Lovejoy. The teams got a fifteen-minute warm up, no run out, no coin toss in the middle of the field, a quick national anthem and the game started.
The Scots showed they were ready, they addressed some of the problems that surfaced against Rockwall Heath. Between hand offs to Matthew White and throws to Cannon Bozman for touchdowns and successful point after attempts by Sutton Stock, the Scots found themselves up 21-0 with less than four minutes in the first half. That’s when lightning struck, literally.A decision was made to call the game, ultimately giving the Scots a win. Fortunately for most fans, the rain held off just long enough to let them get to their cars.
