Homecoming game gives the Scots another win
It was a busy Friday night in the Park Cities, an elementary school carnival, the High School Student council put on an afternoon of fun for kids, the High School choir sang the National anthem, Alumni from five different decades were recognized, the homecoming queen was crowned and the football team played a game.

It was not the most exciting game the Scots have played all year, they showed up and they took home a win. During the first half Canon Spackman caught a 32 yard pass in the endzone kicker Nicholas Rigas hit a 27 yard field goal and halftime started.
The Belles danced their every three year hoops dance to Dr. Jones, always a fan favorite. They only dance to Dr. Jones every three years allowing every Belle to dance to it one year during their time as a Highland Belle. This year they danced to it at the Irving Nimitz game and the homecoming game, you won’t see it again until 2026.

Homecoming halftime is always fun, the alumni foundation invites former football captains and homecoming queens going back in ten year increments. The team of 1953, graduates of 1954, was represented by Syd Carter and Garry Weber. Randy Smith was the sole representative of the 1973 team, 1983 team captains, Erik Mays, Craig Meek and John Carl Rutledge and homecoming queen Teri Rudolph Ware. The 1993 team captains that were able to attend were David Bellamy and Chris Millican. The 2003 captains and families had the best turnout, Russell English, Jack Gallivan, Kyle Luby, Matthew Sepulveda and homecoming queen Maggie Bullock Russ.

Immediately afterwards the 2023 Homecoming queen nominees were escorted onto the field, Katy Barry, Emma, Jenna, Campbell Sharpe, Olivia Xioa and Claire Romo. The queen use to be crowned at the Saturday night dance but in the last few years, the crowning occurs at the game. Kate Barry, a member of the Lady Scots soccer team looked totally surprised when her name was called.
As the Scots took the field for the second half they looked a little more like themselves, moving the ball down the field and scoring two more touchdowns, both running plays. Keller Holmes carried the ball fourteen yards into the endzone in the third quarter and Cooper Schendle ran eighteen yards for the Scots final touchdown. Both extra point attempts by Nicholas Rigas were successful.
A quick turnaround this week as the Scots prepare for their Thursday night game at Richardson. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm and should be a tough game. Richardson lost to Lake Highlands in overtime earlier this season.
