Football Scrimmages Show Scots Depth

First weekend of school Highlander stadium saw a lot of activity.  Freshman  and JV football scrimmaged before sunrise. Immediately following, team photos were taken.  Varsity began their scrimmage showcasing four quarterbacks, multiple receivers and running backs, two lines, the defensive side of the ball showed great depth and some strong returners.

The following week the Scots traveled to Murphy, Texas to scrimmage Plano East, a 6A team.  Last Spring in the district realignment, Highland Park was dropped to 5A.  Their district is far flung with teams like Tyler, Red Oak, Joshua, Cleburne, Burleson Centennial and Midlothian.  Getting to any of those locations on a Friday night will take a minimum of an hour up to two hours depending on traffic.

During the scrimmage against Plano East there were some injuries, one season ending for a starter.  We saw quarterbacks again showcasing their talents. Defense was limited due to not tackling a quarterback but that didn’t stop the Scots defense from showing some grit.

Next up some non district games, Rockwall Heath, Lovejoy, Jesuit and Cherry Creek from the Denver area. All of September you will find the Scots at Highlander with the exception of September 13th game against Jesuit, always a fan favorite, played at SMU stadium.  Very convenient except for the parking and getting out of the parking after the game. Fortunately this year it does not appear to be SMU’s parents’ weekend as if was last year making campus traffic worse than most weekends.
