HP defeats Rockwall Heath

Scots football starts season with a 34-21 victory over Rockwall Heath

It’s not often Highland Park starts a sophomore at quarterback but Randy Allen made the call to start Buck Randall over two seniors and a junior. Scots traveled to Wilkerson Sanders Memorial stadium in Rockwall to face Rockwall Heath, coached by Rodney Webb. Webb previously was the Athletic Director for Highland Park for the fall of 2022 to the spring of 2023 when he returned to coaching.

Scots scored with a  short pass from Randall to Cannon Bozman.  Junior Sutton Stock hit a 46 yard field goal. Scots also scored on a pass just  before halftime to Harrison Cullum diving at the goal line.

The Scots defense showed what it had to offer forcing a Heath fumble on their first play. A memorable defensize play came when Angus Wall took an interception 98 yards for a Scots’ touchdown.

Scots lead 24-14 at halftime.

Sutton Stock hit a 33 yard field goal in the third quarter and Buck Randall ran for one touchdown. Scots finished with a 34-21 victory.

Buck Randall showed poise beyond his age, last time Coach Allen put a sophomore over center was in 2003 season and the sophomore was Matthew Stafford.

Scots will head back home for their home opener hosting Lovejoy coached by Todd Dodge.
