The Scots defeat Tyler 38-21 at Highlander

The Highland Park Scots play their first home game this season against Tyler.

For the first time in Randy Allen’s coaching years at Highland Park, he and his team had two losses to start their season, after  hard fought games against Lewisville and Heath.  Friday night the Scots came home to Highlander Stadium.  The roster has seen a few changes due to injuries and will unfortunately see more next week.

The first half became the Liam Thomas show as Buck Randall kept connecting with Liam for touchdowns.

The defense shut down the normally productive Tyler offense. Starting quarterback, Raykell Ford left the game during the first half,  the Scots defense continued to do their job.

Scots Liam Thomas scored two touchdowns during the first half of the Scots 38-21 win over Tyler.

Scots took a Tyler fumble, and within a few plays Buck Randall threw to Liam Thomas who took the pass 76 yards for a Scots touchdown. Shep Pryor hits the point-after, to give the Scots 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Midway through the second quarter Liam Thomas catches a touchdown pass extending the Scots lead to 14-0 after a Shep Pryor point after.

Scots continued to shut down Tyler’s offense and found themselves deep in Tyler territory. James Flowers ran up the middle, untouched giving the Scots 21-0 lead going into halftime.

Tyler took the second-half kickoff 96 yards to the endzone; suddenly Tyler was back on the scoreboard, trailing 7-21.

Scots managed a field goal in the 3rd quarter.  Tyler’s Cadarius McMiller took a handoff 48 yards to put the Lions in striking distance, combined with point after, Tyler 14, HP 24 halfway through the third quarter.

Starting the fourth quarter Scots benefitted from a holding call, placing the ball on the two yardline. James Flowers pushed his way across the goal-line followed by a Shep Pryor point after,  giving the Scots a little breathing room with a 31-14 lead.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Scots sent Beckett Lawrence down the far side line for a 25 yard pass and touchdown. Shep Pryor’s extra point kick made it 38-14 with about four minutes left in the game.  At the two- minute mark, Tyler threw a 31 yard pass to Charles Davis.  The final score would be Scots first win of the season, 38-21.

The Scots defense came together to shut down Tyler’s explosive offense and the Scots offense to advantage of multiple receivers and Caiden Reeves and James Flowers in the backfield.

Next week the Scots travel to Argyle for another tough game.
