Scots' Beckett Lawrence takes a reverse down field against Argyle until he is surrounded and they remove his helmet.

The score tells one story, while the actual game tells another. The Scots knew they were up for a battle for the fourth week of pre-district play.  Anyone who looks at the quarterback passing stats, would know the Argyle quarterback, Hayes Hackney, who transferred from Prosper Walnut Grove, had passing numbers just below Scots quarterback Buck Randall currently leading 5A passing yards.

The Scots kept up for the most part, Caiden Reeves had three touchdowns, the first early in the second quarter to put the Scots, on the board 7-14. Reeves second touchdown came midway through the second quarter after James Flowers carried the ball to the one-yard line. Reeves ran to his right, into the end zone, Scots still trailed 14-21.

One of the most dramatic plays came as the Scots were down 14-28 with minutes left in the 2nd quarter.  The Scots used a reverse play to get the ball to Beckett Lawrence, who easily ran to his right and began his race downfield. The Argyle players surrounded him after he had picked up 40 yards.  Lawrence kept his feet moving, while guarding the ball.  While one Argyle player attempted to strip the ball, another made it his job to remove Lawrence’s helmet, which he ultimately did; however Lawrence continued to make baby steps closer to the goal line until the referee finally blew his whistle.  Reeves followed up with his third touchdown of the night, moving the Scots to within one score , 21-28.

Late in the third quarter Scots’ defense were working to keep Argyle out of the endzone when the ball popped out and Wells Fainter grabbed it and took a few steps to move the ball up field before he was brought down.  It looked as if the Scots would tie the game up before half, but unfortunately, an interception returned the ball back to Argyle who scored again with just 44 seconds left in the first half. The Scots were able to move quickly down the field and get a Shep Pryor field goal, leaving the score at halftime 24-35 with Argyle leading.

The Third quarter brought more points, for the Scots. Midway through the quarter James Flowers ran up the middle, while the Argyle defender grabbed his helmet and literally drug him into the endzone.  With the point after good, the Scots were still trailing 31-42.

Dean Dulin jumped onto a Scots onside kick, unfortunately the Scots had to settle for another Shep Pryor field goal, the Scots were now trailing 34-42 with five minutes left in the quarter.

Argyle scored three unanswered touchdowns while HP was only able to get a field goal. Argyle scored one more touchdown resulting in a score that showed Argyle’s domination but not the whole story.  Argyle defeated the Scots 70-37.

Scots will host their first district opponent, Naaman Forest for homecoming next Friday.
